February 15, 2001 Tell a friend about this article Posted to the web February 17, 2001 French Version Port Louis, Mauritius The Mauritian education ministry would introduce new subjects at primary school level in its plan to restructure education, official sources said Thursday. According to the primary curriculum committee, presided over by Surendra Bissoondoyal, environmental studies would be taught as from Standard One. It would be replaced in Standard Four by science, history and geography. "Eight compulsory subjects are envisaged for the first years of primary schooling apart from oriental languages, moral and religious values", the committee said. These subjects are English, French, mathematics, environmental studies, creative education, Information Technology, movement and physical education and citizenship education. The committee, however, said that the structure for the certificate of primary education examinations is yet to be finalised. |
